Apply for grants from the Finnish Cancer Foundation

2.6.2016

Finnish Cancer Foundation grants applications are open for grants for biological, clinical, epidemiological, and psychosocial cancer research. Application period: 30 May – 26 August 2016.

The Cancer Foundation does not award grants to researchers or research groups that receive funding from the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry refers to a company or corporate conglomerate that obtains the bulk of its profits from the manufacture or marketing of tobacco products.

Major grants

Two grants of €450 000 three-year grants will be awarded, of which one is intended for breast cancer research and the second for any other area cancer research. Also available is a two-year major grant of €200 000 for research on cancer prevention and/or the costs of cancer treatment. The grant intended for breast cancer research is being funded by proceeds from the Pink Ribbon campaign. Grants are awarded to researchers or research teams presenting long-term research protocols regarded as furthering the eradication of cancer.

Other research and dissertation grants

Grants will be awarded for scientific cancer research for one, two and three years. Dissertation grants are between €3 000 – €5 000 and are available on a one-off basis.

Grants are from the Cancer Foundation’s scientific funds or from funds for general purposes. The names of these funds and their designations can be found on the Cancer Society of Finland’s website www.cancersociety.fi/grants/cancer-foundation-grants/

2016 is exceptional in that applicants may also apply for grants for research into early diagnosis from the Cancer Society of Finland’s Patient Pathway foundation. The grants are intended for projects that promote access to examinations and treatments for cancer in accordance with the purpose of the fund.

Application forms are completed online. Applications are to be accompanied by a research protocol and list of publications of the principal researcher for 2011-2016, and are sent to the Cancer Foundation electronically. Applications may not be made after the closing date for submissions. Late applications will not be considered. Applications that deviate from the application protocol will also be disregarded.
